Did some sewing yesterday on a mystery quilt I am teaching in August ... Of course it's a mystery, but I can share this with you ...
Hi ... my name is Colleen and I am a wife and mother living under the sun in San Diego, California. I have one son and one daughter and three dogs ... My furry children. I created this blog so I can ... well, what else? Talk about quilting ... and the other things most important in my life ... family and friends!

Randomness ...
Aacckk ... How has a week gone by? Ok ... I am not even going to apologize again! My hubby works for the school district and he is home during the summers ... Enough said, correct? He is really just a large child and has many plans for his time off ... Many of these projects seem to have my name on them too ... Brother!!

Building a beauty
Sometimes I have a definite idea of what a quilt should look like, and sometimes I just go with a vision. I had seen a quilt on Pinterest that I loved. It was a four
Wanted to show you I still have my boo boo. It's all healed over, but super sensitive, so I keep a bandage on it until the skin grows back and gives it some cushioning.
patch in a four patch and there was a cross of colors. I knew I wanted to make it.
I had pulled some fabric back when I did the curved ruler quilt, and I had this stack that hadn't gone with what I used ... I knew it would be perfect! Reds, greys and a little black. I cut it all
out one day and then started sewing.
When my daughter had pneumonia and it was 100+ here we were holed up in my bedroom. The only area of the house with central air...
I set myself up on the nightstand and sewed away.
Our dogs are allowed on the bed, but Todd is not because he is so dirty all the time. I think Charlie and Sophie like to get up there and rub it in.
He likes this spot under the bed because it is nice and cool. Usually it's his short little legs that stick out.
Then when I went to Irvine and spent the night the day before sweet daughter went back to school, the quilt came too.
All laid out on the bed. I should have looked back at this picture as I sewed it together because I got my blocks messed up.
Got the blocks all sewn together finally! Then I thought it needed some borders to make it bigger, although I was tempted to just leave it because I liked the way it looked.

Sewing time
It has been a long time since I've been in my sewing studio. The longarm is quiet as I am taking a vacation from it for a short while. I have time now to do some sewing and taking care of the house, my hubby and daughter that are both off for the summer, gardening, etc. I am really enjoying slowing my life down a little, and thinking this may be a yearly vacation I give myself.
I've been sewing for three days now, but I can't exactly tell you what I'm making. I can tell you that the first thing I needed to do was recover my ironing board ...
It was horrible! I pulled off the old fabric, grabbed some batting, layered it over the old original silver cover, then threw a piece of fabric long enough to cover, and trimmed the edges of the fabric.
While sewing I had some company ...
Todd really likes to be around people. I think because our dogs are a bonded pair, Todd needs a friend, and I guess I'm it!
Ok ... Here is what I can show you that I've been doing in my workshop ...
